Can Crohn’s disease be predicted and potentially prevented before symptoms begin?
PREDICT-CD is a groundbreaking European study led by the INTERCEPT consortium, an international collaboration of researchers, healthcare professionals, patient organizations, and industry partners working to advance the early detection and prevention of Crohn’s disease.
The study aims to recruit 10,000 healthy first-degree relatives of individuals with Crohn’s disease across seven European countries. By analyzing blood biomarkers and lifestyle factors, researchers hope to develop a risk score that identifies individuals most likely to develop Crohn’s disease before symptoms appear. Those identified as having the highest risk may be invited to participate in a follow-up clinical trial exploring whether early medical intervention can prevent disease development.
Who can participate? Individuals ages 16–35 with a parent, sibling, or child diagnosed with Crohn’s disease, who meet additional eligibility criteria.
