Bethany Doerfler MS, RDN is the Senior Clinical Research Dietitian for the Digestive Health Institute at Northwestern Memorial Feinberg School of Medicine. Her clinical practice and research prioritize lifestyle management of digestive diseases including GERD, inflammatory bowel diseases, motility disorders, and eosinophilic diseases. She is one of the founding members of the GI behavioral medicine team at Northwestern Medicine which offers GI nutrition and psychogastroenterology for patients seeking digestive health.

Outside of her GI practice, Bethany is part of the NU-Trition team, integrating medical nutrition therapy into the medical student curriculum within Feinberg School of Medicine. She is part of NIH-funded research investigating nutrition therapy for both EoE and non-EOE eosinophilic disorders through the Consortium of Eosinophilic Disease Researchers (CEGIRS) group. She is a founding member of the Dietitians in GI (DIGID) Upper Esophageal Working Group partnering with the American Gastroenterology Association and has helped develop an advanced practice certification for dietitians who specialize in treating GI disorders. Bethany provides quarterly guest lectures on diet and GI disease for GI fellows receiving advanced training through the American Neuro-gastro Motility Society (ANMS).

Bethany received her Bachelor of Science in dietetics and human nutrition from Michigan State University and went on to do advanced training at Loyola Medicine, Chicago, IL. She further completed a MS in Nutritional Epidemiology at the University of Illinois at Chicago where she focused on school-based interventions aimed at addressing Urban Obesity in Chicago.

Bethany is regularly featured in nutrition focused media hits contributing to pieces featured on the Today’s Show, NPR, Women’s Health, Prevention magazine and local news outlets.
